Matt is a husband and father first and foremost. He discovered volleyball at 18 and has been passionate about the sport ever since. Still an active player, he began coaching two years ago when his two daughters started playing — combining his love for the sport with a lifelong passion for mentorship. After a year of assistant coaching at the club level, Matt founded Elevate Lawrence Volleyball with a vision for a different style of club coaching — one built on encouragement, development, and putting players first.
He brings a calm, positive attitude and is committed to helping athletes grow both on and off the court. Matt is excited to continue building strong relationships and supporting the development of players.
Professionally, Matt's first passion was technology — he built his first computer at 14, which led him to a career in IT. After moving to Kansas City to complete his Bachelor's degree in Technical Management in 2003, he settled in Lawrence in 2007 with his wife. In the IT world, Matt thrives on both learning and teaching, always sharing knowledge with a growth mindset. He has built and led IT teams his entire career. When not on the court or playing with his kids, he enjoys board games with friends and family.
